French local government associations agree to cooperate on EU issues

The French Association of the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (AFCCRE) and the Assembly of Departments of France (ADF) have signed a cooperation agreement to work on European issues. The agreement was signed at the occasion of the Congress of the ADF, on 28, 29 and 30 October 2008.

The cooperation between the two associations is based on the complementarity of both representatives of French local and regional government. It aims to adopt common positions on EU issues, to provide common training offers and to share experiences.

The AFCCRE President, Louis Le Pensec, said: 'The Protocol to the agreement on cooperation demonstrates both associations' commitment to collaborating on European issues for the benefit of our local and regional governments".

The French association of the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (AFCCRE) was founded in 1951. Today it represents some 2,000 local and regional governments (municipalities, departments, regions and grouping of municipalities). The AFCCRE is the French section of the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CCRE).

The Assembly of the Departments of France (ADF) represents more than 100 French general councils (conseils généraux) and departments. The ADF aims to provide elected representatives and technicians with the means to exchange experiences and know-how, and to adopt common positions on national and EU issues.
