Does your local government suffer the effects of climate change? Receive support from the European Commission for your adaptation policies!

Flooding, extreme weather events, deterioration of public health: local and regional governments are directly exposed to the consequences of climate change. They are therefore best suited to take the necessary measures to adapt their territories and minimise current or upcoming impacts of climate change.
rn
rnIn order to support local government in these efforts, the European Commissioner for Climate action, Connie Hedegaard, launched the Mayors adapt* initiative on 19 March 2014.
rn
What is Mayors adapt?
rn
rnThis initiative is structured around 4 objectives:
rn

rnrn

  • to support the adaptation efforts led by local government in all relevant areas, such as transportation, public health or water and energy supply,
  • to offer a platform allowing local government exchange of experiences and good practices,
  • to provide a better visibility to actions led at a local level,
  • to encourage policy-makers to get involved on a long-term basis in actions against the consequences of climate change.

rnrn

What are the advantages to taking part to this initiative?
rn
Mayors Adapt signatories will benefit of:
rn

rnrn

  • the European Commission’s technical support to assess the vulnerabilities of their territories and to elaborate their actions plans,
  • the Mayors Adapt network, allowing the exchange of good practices among the participants,
  • an increased visibility in the fight against the effects of climate change.
