Golden Stars award ceremony to take place on 13 November in Brussels
The European Commission will reward six town twinning projects at the occasion of the Golden Stars prize ceremony taking place on 13 November 2008 in Brussels.
The Golden Stars are awarded each year to the best town twinning projects, in the framework of the "Europe for citizens" programme. The task of identifying this year's winners was trusted to an external jury, composed of seven members including Sandra Ceciarini, in charge of twinning at the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR). The chair of CEMR's Town Twinning Committee, the mayor of Oswiecim (Poland), Janusz Marszalek will award the Golden Stars to the winners.
CEMR's new website dedicated to town twinning in Europe will officially be presented on the same day. The 20 language website will consist of two parts. The first part is more "educational" and aims to bring together, in one place, all the information needed about twinning. The second part is more practical and will enable any European local authority to post a "seeking a partner" ad via an online form in twenty languages.
A "Europe for citizens" Forum will also be organised at the occasion of the ceremony. It will aim to discuss the active participation of citizens in constructing Europe. The event will be held on 13 and 14 November in Brussels. Registrations are open until 31 October 2008. There is no participation fee to be paid for the conference.
