European Congress for Wireless and Digital Cities (11-13 November – Barcelona)
The Third European Congress for Wireless and Digital Cities, organised in partnership with the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR), will take place in Barcelona, from 11 to 13 November 2008.
The Wireless Cities Congress aims to address the challenges European cities are faced with. How to share and develop best practice policies for municipal wireless? How to deliver economic growth and social inclusion through city wireless? How to construct cost-effective business plans for city-wide wireless networks? How to identify and maximise wireless-enabled applications for key departments including emergency services, healthcare and transportation?
The programme also includes a workshop 'Creating the Intelligent Community", in conjunction with International Network of E-Communities (INEC) and a site visit organised by the Barcelona City Council.
Key speakers will include the mayor of Barcelona, Jordi Hereu ; the deputy mayor of Paris, Daniele Auffray ; EU Commissioner in charge of Information Society and Media, Viviane Reding ; as well as representatives from local governments and from the private sector. CEMR's director of policies, Angelika Poth-Mögele, will chair debates on the second day of the congress.
Last year policy makers and decision-makers in information and communication technologies (ICT) from over 150 cities across Europe attended. This year participants will include delegates from the 27 European Union member states, Turkey and Russia.
