The opening.session, scheduled for Thursday 29 September from 16:00 to 16:45, is to include a video message by Broniscaw Komorowski, the president of Poland. An exchange has also been organised between Ryszard Grobelny, president of the Association of Polish Cities and mayor of Poznañ, Adam Fudali, mayor of Rybnik, and Wolfgang Schuster, president of CEMR and mayor of Stuttgart.

 

The future of European citizenship will then be discussed during the Congress' first plenary session, to take place after the opening session, from 16:45 to 18:00. Speakers will include Ylva Tiveus, director of the citizens unit in the European Commission Directorate General for communication, and Enrique Barón Crespo, former president of the European Parliament, president of the European Foundation for Information Society.

 

The Congress is organised by the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR) in partnership with the Association of Polish Cities (APC), a CEMR member association, and the City of Rybnik, with the financial support of the European Commission and under the patronage of the Polish EU presidency.
