A one-day conference to explore the European Commission’s new policy
Waterfront Europe is organising a conference on "the European Commission's New Ports Policy: Opening the Dialogue", in Brussels, on 22 November 2007.
This event will be held in the wake of the launch of the European.Commission's new European ports policy, on 18 October 2007. The conference's main aims are to assess this policy, to look into the new guidelines and to debate on the key issues with stakeholders and experts.
How can ports be developed in a sustainable manner to match the growth in demand for shipping? Should regulation be extended to the entire logistics chain? How can fair competition between EU ports be ensured? Is social dialogue the key to maintaining good relations? These are some of the questions which will be raised at the conference.
Speakers include Jean Trestour, Head of Unit – Maritime Transport Policy European Commission DG Transport & Energy; Patrick Verhoeven, Secretary General European Sea Ports Organisation (ESPO); Alfons Guinier, Secretary General European Community Shipowners' Association (ECSA); Philippe Alfonso, Political Secretary ETF Maritime Transport Section.
The conference is organised with the support of the European Commission, ESPO and ECSA, in partnership with the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR).
