NICHES’ local policy recommendations for urban transport innovation now available!
The NICHES scheme (New and Innovative Concepts for Helping European transport Sustainability) makes available to local and regional elected representatives and urban transport practitioners its final results.
The NICHES team has identified 12 innovative concepts aimed to improve transport in European cities and regions. The concepts include, among others, urban lift-sharing services; public bicycles; space management for urban delivery; night delivery; biogas; joint procurement of clean vehicles; road pricing and city-wide campaigns, etc.
An overview brochure has been produced on these 12 concepts, as well as on 12 policy notes (one per concept) all available in electronic format on the NICHES website or upon request in paper format. They describe the innovative policy concepts and explain the local conditions needed to allow their transfer to your city or region. The series is completed with a brochure on local policy recommendations for urban transport innovation and a publication on innovative urban transport strategies, describing how NICHES concepts can be combined to reach urban transport policy goals.
NICHES is a supported by the European Commission's DG Research, it was launched in November 2004. The Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR) is a partner, with POLIS (the network of municipalities for innovative and sustainable transport) being the leading partner.
