This Climate Academy is important because it equips local governments with the tools to co-create climate action that is equitable, inclusive, and grounded in real community needs. By centering justice-centered leadership, it ensures that those most affected by climate change, women, youth, and marginalised communities, are actively shaping solutions, not just impacted by them. The academy bridges global climate commitments and European policy frameworks with practical, locally driven action through shared learning and concrete case studies. It also strengthens local capacity and decentralised cooperation, helping elected representatives design climate policies that are more effective, democratic, and resilient over time.
