Risk and disasters management: the benefits of space at the local and regional level

Eurisy, the network to promote the benefits of space for European society, is organising a workshop on risk management strategies and on best practices using satellite information and services, from 9 to 11 March 2008, in Sinaia, Romania.
 
The workshop will allow regions to exchange information on risk management strategies and on best practices using satellite information and services. At the end of this non-technical workshop, regional representatives will know more on why and how to decide on, obtain funds for, implement and manage satellite information and services for the particular challenges with which they are confronted.
 
The workshop is addressed to local and regional governments involved in emergency and risk management, experts, policy-makers, representatives of the private sector, institutions interested in regional policy.
 
Speakers should include Gérard Brachet, Chairman, United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space; Michel Delebarre, Vice President, Committee of the Regions; Jean-Jacques Dordain, Director General, European Space Agency; Colin Hicks, President, Eurisy; Danuta Hübner, Commissioner for Regional Policy, European Commission.
