New CEMR publication on structures and competences of local and regional government in Europe
How many municipalities are there in Latvia? How many cantons in Switzerland? What are the local council's competences in Italy, Norway and the Former Yugoslav Republic.of Macedonia? How and for how long is the mayor elected in Iceland, Turkey and Montenegro?
All of these questions and more are answered in the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR)'s new publication, entitled Local and Regional Government in Europe – Structures and Competences. This second edition of a first study released in 2005 serves to provide an overview and guide to European local and regional governments in 39 countries, as well as their functioning, competences and more.
The publication, published in the framework of CEMR's 60th anniversary, is available in both English and French and also lists CEMR's national member associations representing local and regional government present in each of the 39 countries.
